Recommendation to stop algae on rough exterior limestone
« on: April 20, 2013, 04:21:30 PM »

I have some rough limestone flagstones that go green every time it rains.  I am getting bored powerwashing them.  What do you recommend I use to prevent this?

Thank you.

Hi scotsman,
Water borne contaminates such as mould, mildew, algae etc are unfortunately a part of life and no sealer exists to completely prevent this. In saying this we can make it much more difficult for these green substances to first build up and secondly bond as deeply to our substrates.
Any penetrating limestone sealer will aid in preventing water borne contaminates from adhering to your surface. This has the positive effect that should any "green" substance return, it will no longer be able to penetrate as deep, making maintenance much more easier. Foreign contaminants essentially will now sit on your surface!

Most opt for a penetrating sealer when it comes to natural stones.
Either the Limestone Deluxe or Limestone Premium range aid in water borne contaminant protection.

Theoretical coverage is approx 200 to 400 sq. ft. / gallon per coat depending on the porosity of the substrate.
5 gal = approx 750  sq ft.
